Notes Drawer privacy policy

Last updated: 25 October 2026

Notes Drawer is a home screen app for Android tablets, foldables and phones. This policy explains what the app does with your data. In short: your notes stay on your device, and the only thing the app sends anywhere is a crash report when it fails.

What stays on your device

  • Your notes: handwriting, typed text, to-do lists, mind maps, folders, profiles and settings are stored only in the app's private storage on your device. We cannot see them.
  • Backups: the app writes backups of your notes to its own folder on your device, and to a place you choose when you save one yourself. They are not uploaded anywhere by us.
  • Photos: photos you place on a note are chosen through Android's photo picker. The app remembers which photos you chose and reads them on the device; it does not copy or upload them.
  • Calendar: if you add the agenda widget and allow calendar access, the app reads today's events to show them on the paper. They are never stored outside the device or sent anywhere.
  • Apps and widgets: the app lists the apps installed on your device so you can open them and place them on the paper, as any home screen does. This list stays on the device.
  • Sharing: a note leaves the device only when you share it yourself, through Android's share sheet, to an app and person you choose.

What is sent: crash reports

Versions of the app installed from Google Play send a report when the app crashes, so that we can find and fix the problem. We use Firebase Crashlytics, a service of Google, for this. A crash report contains:

  • technical details of the crash (which part of the app failed, and the state of the app at that moment);
  • your device model, Android version and the amount of free memory and storage;
  • the app's version and whether it is a test or a public version;
  • a random installation identifier, used to count how many devices a crash affects.

A crash report never contains your notes, handwriting, photos, calendar events, the apps you use or anything you typed. Notes Drawer has no accounts, no advertising, and no analytics or usage tracking.

The legal basis is our legitimate interest in a working app (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Google processes crash reports on our behalf under the Firebase data processing terms and keeps them for 90 days. Google may process them outside the European Union, under the safeguards described in those terms. More about Crashlytics: Privacy and security in Firebase.

Children

Notes Drawer is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect data from them.

Your rights

You have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection (Art. 15–21 GDPR), and the right to complain to a supervisory authority; for Berlin, the Berliner Beauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit. To ask us to delete crash reports from your device, write to [email protected]. Uninstalling the app deletes your notes and its backups folder from the device.

Changes

If the app starts to handle data differently, we will update this page and its date before the new version is published.
